What is Miron glass?
Sometimes referred to as Biphotonic glass or violet glass, Miron glass is a type of glass that is very dark in colour. It is almost opaque and looks black, however, when held up to the light, it is actually a violet colour. It is commonly used to store natural products, including superfoods and skincare products.
The violet-coloured glass actually acts as a filter which enhances the benefits of using this type of glass – but we’ll talk more about how the glass works later. The use of violet glass can be traced back to Ancient Egypt, with Egyptians using this glass to store sacred and healing products.
It is also believed that in the Middle Ages, alchemists would use violet glass to store various concoctions, given the amazing storage capabilities of the glass.
The use of this kind of glass was all but overlooked due to various advancements in technology and products used for storage. That is, up until the 1990s when Miron glass was produced on an industrial scale.
What are the benefits of using Miron Violet Glass?
You’re probably wondering what makes violet glass different to normal glass. And while standard clear glass is a great and sustainable storage option for many types of products, including food, violet glass offers a whole host of benefits that no other kind of storage does.

Tonics, herbs and various superfoods can have their quality impacted by light and by air. While standard glass can offer airtight storage for your superfoods, it can’t unfortunately do much about light damaging your superfoods potency.
Light is important in the lifecycle of superfoods (and plants in general), however, it’s more important in the growth stages, rather than once the plant has reached its maturity. In fact, once the plant has fully grown, and in the case of superfoods, is now in its extract form, light can actually promote the decomposition of the superfood. That is except for violet light. That’s why you won’t see our superfoods in clear packaging.
Miron violet glass blocks out all types of light except for infrared and UVA light, which is also known as violet light – essentially acting as a filter for your superfoods. This helps to not only protect the lifespan of your tonics and herb but actually helps to improve their quality too.
So, by improving the quality of your tonic herbs and increasing their shelf-life, you have the chance to reduce your wastage. And once you’re finished with that product, you can either reuse the Miron glass packaging or recycle it.
