Not every pine species is suited to tea, so ours come only from species with a long tradition of use, harvested from clean forest environments.
What is pine needle tea?
The needles of certain pine species can be harvested, dried and steeped like any other herbal tea. The result is a clean, resinous cup with a citrus edge — a preparation that has been part of folk tradition across Russia, Korea, China and Scandinavia for centuries.
What pine needles contain
Pine needles naturally contain vitamin C — historically the reason sailors and foresters brewed them — along with vitamin A, amino acids and antioxidant plant compounds.
How to brew
As a rule of thumb, steep 2–3 grams of needles in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes. Five minutes gives a lighter cup; ten gives a stronger flavour and aroma. Taste and character vary with the type of needles you are brewing.
Our pine needle teas
Choose from Siberian Pine Needle Tea, Korean Pine Needle Tea and Kerkka Spruce Sprout Tea. If you prefer a true tea, Silver Needle White Tea — made from the buds of the tea plant rather than pine — rounds out the needle family.
