Why freeze dried?

These berries are highly perishable and none of them grow in Australia, so fresh is not an option here. Freeze drying removes the water while leaving the fruit's structure and compounds intact, which is why it produces a more faithful powder than heat drying.

The result keeps well, measures easily, and mixes straight into food and drinks.

How to use them

Add half to one teaspoon to hot water or milk for an instant tonic tea. They also work in any smoothie, or stirred through yoghurt, porridge and baked goods.

The three berries

Acai Berry

Native to the Amazon region of Brazil, where it grows on a species of palm. Unusually for a fruit, acai is high in fat and low in sugar, which gives the powder its rich, almost chocolatey character.

Elderberry

Native to the Americas and Europe, elderberry has a long history of culinary use in cordials, syrups and preserves. Ours is sourced from Chile.

Maqui Berry

A small dark purple berry native to Chile and Argentina, traditionally harvested by the Mapuche people. Its deep colour comes from a high concentration of anthocyanins.
