What cordyceps is

Cordyceps is not an ordinary mushroom. In the wild it is a parasitic fungus that grows on insect larvae, colonising the host and pushing a long, narrow fruiting body out through the insect's body.

Wild cordyceps is found mainly at altitude in Tibet, China, Nepal and other parts of Asia. It has historically been among the most expensive fungi in the world, because wild collection is slow, seasonal and physically punishing.

How ours is grown

Wild collection carries obvious sustainability problems, and it is not vegan. Ours is grown on a nutrient medium in controlled conditions instead — consistent quality batch to batch, no pressure on wild populations, and suitable for vegans.

It is then dual extracted. Water pulls out the water-soluble compounds and alcohol the ones that are not, so a dual extraction captures a broader range than either method on its own.

Traditional use

Cordyceps appears in Tibetan and Chinese texts going back centuries, used on its own or combined with other herbs. It was rare and costly enough that its use was historically limited to the wealthy.

How to use it

Half a teaspoon into hot water, coffee, milk or a smoothie. Also available as capsules and within our mushroom elixir blends.
