How it is made

Most commercial cod liver oil is produced at scale using heat and refining, which strips the oil and then re-adds vitamins afterwards. Rosita's process does neither — the oil is separated gently and bottled as it comes, which is why it retains the colour, aroma and taste of the fresh liver rather than the neutral character of a refined oil.

The vitamins A and D in the oil occur naturally in the liver and are never added. The only additions are trace antioxidants — rosemary extract and non-GMO vitamin E — which together make up less than one tenth of one percent, and are there to protect the oil from oxidation.

Because the oil is unrefined and made from wild fish, its nutrient values shift with the seasons and the catch. The figures on the label are annual averages, and the current label is always the accurate reference.

Rosita Ratfish Liver Oil

Ratfish liver oil is a rarer product, made from a deep-water relative of the shark found off the Norwegian coast. It is unusual in containing alkylglycerols, compounds found in very few natural sources.

Like the cod liver oil, it is harvested sustainably and minimally processed.

A note on dosage

Cod liver oil is naturally high in preformed vitamin A, so do not exceed the recommended dose on the label. If you are pregnant, or taking other supplements containing vitamin A, speak to your doctor or midwife before starting.

Shipping

The oils are shipped deep frozen with a free ice pack and insulation, via Australia Post express. The capsules do not require refrigeration, which makes them the easier option for travel.
