Shilajit Lab Testing & Certificates

Shilajit is only as good as its purity, and purity is something you should be able to verify rather than take on faith. Every batch of our shilajit resin — Himalayan, Nepalese and Altai — is independently tested by accredited Australian laboratories. The certificates are published in full below. Nothing here is marketing; these are the actual reports.

What we test for, and who tests it

We use independent, third-party laboratories in Australia — Envirolab Services and ALS. Our latest Envirolab analysis is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 under NATA Accreditation No. 2901, and our ALS certificates are issued under ALS's Food Chemistry accreditation. NATA/ISO 17025 accreditation means the laboratory itself is independently audited to international standards for testing competence — it's the benchmark that separates a genuine result from a number on a nice-looking PDF. Every batch is screened for:

  • Heavy metals — lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium, the contaminants that matter most in a mineral resin, measured against safe limits.
  • Mineral & trace element content — confirming the naturally occurring minerals shilajit is valued for.
  • Microbiological safety — screening for contamination.

We re-test regularly, because shilajit is a natural product and each harvest is different. A certificate from three years ago doesn't tell you what's in the jar you're buying today.

Himalayan Gold Shilajit Resin

Wildcrafted above 17,000 ft in the Skardu region of the Pakistani Himalayas. Our Himalayan resin has the longest testing history, including dedicated ALS food-chemistry certificates. ALS's 2022 testing returned lead 0.24, arsenic 0.81, cadmium below 0.003 and mercury below 0.01 mg/kg.

Nepalese Gold & Altai Gold Shilajit Resin

Our Nepalese Gold (wild-harvested above 4,500 m in western Nepal) and Altai Gold (wild-harvested above 3,500 m in the Altai Mountains) resins are tested alongside our Himalayan resin in the NATA-accredited 2025 Envirolab report above, which reports heavy metals, minerals and organic content for each origin individually. Why we don't publish a "fulvic acid percentage"

If you've shopped around for shilajit, you'll have seen brands advertising very high fulvic acid figures — "70%", "80%", sometimes higher. We understand why it's tempting to quote a big number, but we won't, and here's the honest reason.

The numbers don't add up — literally. Some brands advertise around "80% fulvic acid" alongside "35% humic acid." Added together, that's 115% — more than the entire jar, and that's before you account for the minerals, moisture and ash that also make up the resin. Two ingredients can't fill more than 100% of a product, so a figure like that can't be a real measurement.

Our own certificates put it in perspective. They measure total organic carbon — the carbon-based material that fulvic and humic acids are built from — at roughly a third of the resin (30–37% across our three origins). Fulvic and humic acids can only come from that organic fraction, so there is nowhere near enough of it present for a genuine fulvic result to reach 80%.

The cause is almost always the testing method. There is no standardised, validated laboratory method for measuring fulvic acid in a food like shilajit. The older colorimetric and gravimetric methods still used across the supplement trade pick up minerals, salts and other compounds and report the lot as "fulvic acid," inflating the result several-fold. The internationally recognised reference method — developed by the International Humic Substances Society (IHSS) — typically returns genuine shilajit fulvic figures in the low tens of percent, nowhere near the marketing claims.

A standardised method does exist for humic and fulvic quantification — ISO 19822 — but it was developed for the fertiliser industry and, at the time of writing, Australian food laboratories don't offer it for a product like ours. Rather than publish a number we can't stand behind with an accredited, validated test, we publish what we can verify: independent Australian lab results for heavy metals, minerals and safety, for every origin we sell. If and when a validated fulvic assay becomes available to us, we'll use it and share the results — whatever they say.

In a category full of impressive-sounding numbers, we'd rather give you results you can actually check.

How to read a certificate

You don't need to be a chemist. On each heavy-metal report, the lines that matter most are lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium. Each shows the amount detected in our resin alongside the reporting limit — lower is better, and results within safe limits are what you're looking for. If a figure reads as "less than" a number, it means the contaminant was below the level the instrument can even detect.

A note on method wording: some of our Envirolab reports run our resin through the laboratory's environmental (mineral/soil) method suite. The instrumentation and results are identical to any other matrix — it's simply the panel the resin was tested under — and our ALS certificates use a dedicated food-chemistry method. We're moving all routine testing to food-matrix reporting.
