Chaga (Inonotus Obliquus) is a remarkable mushroom extract with high bioavailability, large amounts of antioxidants, and adaptogenic properties. Chaga grows on Birch trees in Siberian forests and the mycelium actually grows on the outside of the tree and is what’s harvested to make the Chaga extract. The mycelium eventually absorbs all the goodness and life energy from the tree and kills it.
Chaga is known for its Beta-Glucans (a type of polysaccharide), other unique Polysaccharides, Betulinic Acid, Antioxidants and Phytosterols ( mainly inotodiol, lanosterol and a large amount of melanin and Superoxide Dismutase). The melanin gives the Chaga the dark black colour and is a potent antioxidant, look for a dark Chaga Extract to ensure you are getting a large amount of antioxidants. Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) is the other antioxidant found in Chaga with a high ability to scavenge free radicals.
Our Chaga extract has been measured to contain more than 55 times higher levels of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) than raw reishi mushroom, 23 times higher than Agaricus Blazei, 318 times higher than Phellinus linteus extract, 25 times higher than Lion's Mane mushroom extract, and 25 times higher than Maitake mushroom extract.
Beta-Glucans are soothing compounds, found in abundance in Chaga Extract, that research suggests may help support a balanced immune system.
The ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) score is used to measure the antioxidants in a substance, and Chaga Extract has one of the highest scores recorded among natural foods.
The best Chaga is produced using a dual water ethanol extraction to help draw the active compounds out of the raw Chaga, and our Chaga extracts are produced this way. The alcohol helps with the extraction of the Betulinic Acid which the Chaga absorbs from the Birch tree.
Our extracts are super black and full of beta glucans and antioxidants. Click here to check out our Chaga Extract.
We also stock a freeze dried extract, the freeze drying process helps to preserve more of the active compounds and antioxidants in the Chaga extract.
